SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment, also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), and is designed to accelerate your body's natural healing process, reduce pain and enhance mobility.  The intense energy waves delivered during treatment trigger increased blood circulation, cell regeneration, and the release of growth factors.  This helps to repair damaged tissues, reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.  It can also break down calcifications and scar tissue, further aiding in the healing process.  We are pleased to have Dr. Charles providing this treatment at Middlesex Chiropractic!

COMMON CONDITIONS TREATED

  • Plantar Fasciitis / Heel Spurs
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Rotator Cuff Shoulder Injuries
  • Tennis Elbow (or should we say Pickle Ball elbow)
  • Golfer's Elbow
  • Jumper's Knee
  • Calcific Tenonitis

Frequently Asked Questions

The number of shockwave therapy sessions required can vary depending on the specific condition being treated and the individual's response to the treatment. A series of sessions is often recommended to achieve optimal results.  Dr. Charles will assess your condition and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

It is common to experience mild discomfort or a tingling sensation during the shockwave therapy procedure.  The discomfort is usually temporary and tolerable.

After your session you will be able to move the body part normally, and you may notice a reduction of your pain right after the session. After a few hours of your session, you may experience mild soreness, tenderness, bruising, swelling, numbness or tingling in the treated area, due to the activation of the natural inflammatory response. Recovery is fast and it is minimal compared with that of surgical intervention. Refrain from taking any anti-inflammatory medications after your treatment, as this may slow-down the natural healing, and impact on results.

It is recommended that you refrain from any activity that creates stress in the treated area for 48 hours after each treatment. You will be able to drive immediately after your session.
